Leadership Is Constant When Our Priority is Seeing People Grow

“Too often people engage in conducting the tasks we are assigned and forget about developing their people.”

I came across this quote from Tom Peters recently and was struck by the tragedy of the truth it conveys.

When our primary task as a leader is to see people grow, to see them become more than what they currently are, to empower them, then we are living out our true values as a leader. However, when we become task-focused and allow ourselves to become deceived by the amount of things we are checking off our to-do lists, and actually thinking, “Man, I am getting some stuff done today”, then we are abdicating our true calling.

Tasks don’t grow people.

People grow people.
